Just for Today

Live one day at a time; handle my personal challenges for today only. Yesterday’s gone; tomorrow may not come. Today is mine.

Just for Today, I will try to live through this day only and not tackle my whole life’s problems at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Just for Today, I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that, “Most folks are as happy as they make their minds up to be.”

Just for Today, I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my luck as it comes, and fit myself to it.

Just for Today, I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought, and concentration.

Just for Today, I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out. If anyone knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don’t want to do-just for exercise. And I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt. They may be hurt, but I will not show it.

Just for Today, I will have a program. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.

Just for Today, I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.

Just for Today, I will be unafraid. Especially, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.

Just for Today, I will be agreeable. I will look as good as I can, dress becomingly, talk low, act courteously, criticize not one bit, not find fault with anything, and try not to improve or regulate anybody except myself.

Love Thursday

Mama – I love the way you make me do things I really don’t want to do.. because you know they will make me happy later. And they do!

Dad – I love the way you continue to tell me religious sentiments even though I roll my eyes, but always think about it and very much appreciate it later.

Mr. Darcy – I love Wednesdays… or Thursdays.. or BlackBerry Messenger. And your letter. It makes everyone cry. =)

Schmidty - I love the way you whistle in the shower. Unless your shower pipes whistle to the tune of your music.

Elizabeth Bennet – I love the way we can talk about things from OTH to eating placentas. And how we try to confuse people. “I’m the sister” is starting to make me feel like an old maid.

Minerva McGonagall – I love the way you IM me from across the wall. And how sometimes after a way-too-long-when-we-should-be-studying chat/”let’s see all the cool things that Doc can do” play session, when I get back to my room, I have an IM from you.

Jordan Baker – I love the way you send me the right words to make me smile. And how you continue to watch horrible Lifetime movies with me, especially after “Seduced and Betrayed.”

Cuppy Cake – I love the way you receive my rhyming Ambien-influenced texts everynight and say that you really love them. You must be crazy.

Everyone – I love the way you help me get through each day. I  love you!
